About EU-CORD

Background and Purpose

EU-CORD asbl, a network of Christian Organisations in Relief and Development, was formed in 1998 with the goal of serving the poor more effectively and improving the conditions of disadvantaged people in the developing world.

In 1999 a secretariat was set up in Brussels to help the members engage with EU relief and development policy and programmes. In 2003 the network was legally established as an asbl in Belgium and by 2008 the membership had grown to 16 Relief and Development NGOs from 9 European countries with a total annual turnover of over € 300 million.

As a pan-European network, the intention of this partnership is to influence a wide institutional arena and to increase each agency’s programme effectiveness and funding opportunities through practical co-operation. However all agencies retain full independence, working within their respective mandates.

The partners are committed to mutually enhance their capabilities through:

- sharing and exchange of relevant information and experiences about European Union issues.
- sharing expertise and experience from projects throughout the developing world.
- co-operating with member agencies and others in relevant advocacy activities
- further exploring mutual core values in relation to the future strategy of the partnership.

This goal will be achieved in a spirit of servanthood, strengthening and supporting each other while respecting each agency’s specific identity.
