Project Overview
Currently 2 main sectors of intervention are being run in DR Congo from three bases: Bunia, Isiro and Dungu; Projects in the medical sector – involve limited provision of drugs and medical supplies, training and supervision of around 400 health structures in 27 health zones. Also work with HIV awareness and treatment, malaria prevention and treatment and various specialised groups, for example, the displaced and dependants of the military, and involved in epidemic responses. Also reconstruction and / or rehabilitation of health care facilities.
Responsibilities
To coordinate the running of the Isiro base, providing security management, administrative support and logistical coordination. To ensure that Medair is represented to all local and INGO’s as well as authorities, donors and beneficiaries for the purpose of supporting financial or logistical processes. To oversee all financial activities for the Uélé projects, and to manage the team, including recruitment of national staff, coaching & mentoring, disciplinary action and general personnel care.

I. Purpose and general description of the position
The role of this key position is to provide integral management to the programmes and activities of ZOA in South Sudan within the framework of the Programme Management System and the Strategic Plan. The Director will be responsible for formulation and implementation of the Country Annual Policy Plan, programme formulation, development and implementation and overall management of the ZOA- Southern Sudan organisation. Candidates for this challenging senior position must be graduates preferably with a postgraduate qualification in management of a related development field. They must also have substantial management experience in an international setting, within a development context. Experience in emergency assistance and/or rural development and some exposure to security management is also desirable. This senior position will attract professionals who are flexible and adaptable with interpersonal and cross cultural sensitivity and the ability to work under pressure in a sometimes fluid environment.
As integral manager the Country Director is responsible for the programmes and activities of ZOA in a specific country within the framework of the Programme Management System, the Regional Policy Plan and agreed CAPP.
II. Key responsibilities

Overview of project
The projects Medair is currently implementing are: Health programme and maternal health project for the Badakhshan Provincial districts of Ragh, Khwahan and Kohistan; Food Aid/Security projects in Wardak and Badakhshan; WatSan projects in Wardak and Badakhshan; Disaster Risk Reduction in Badakhshan; Clinic construction in Badakhshan.
Medair has a commitment to stay in Afghanistan and anticipates developing new projects in the Health, Food Aid, WASH and disaster preparedness/mitigation throughout 2009.
Responsibilities
Effectively manage water and sanitation projects in line with objectives, budget and timeframe. Regular and systematic monitoring of project results versus objectives and impact on the project communities. Ensure beneficiary participation is enhanced in all phases of the project. Anticipate, plan, initiate and share in new WatSan proposals development. Recruit, manage & train National WatSan staff.
