An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced senior manager and leader to head our operational programme in DR Congo. Tearfund has been implementing relief and rehabilitation projects in Eastern DR Congo since 2002. The programme now has 15 international staff, 150 national staff and an annual turn over of £2.5 million. Projects are implemented in 4 locations, in Watsan, Food Security, School Rehabilitation and Public Health Promotion sectors. We are looking for a Programme Director with proven experience of relief work, and strong leadership and management skills in order to effectively lead the implementation of the programme in accordance with Tearfund’s approach to good practice, policy and strategy.

The post has responsibility for developing and outworking the strategy for Tearfund’s operational work in DR Congo, and leading a senior management team responsible for programme implementation, logistics, finance and human resources. Strong experience is required in leadership and people management, budget management, donor relations, and donor proposal development and reporting, and compliance to corporate and donor systems. The post is also responsible for representing Tearfund, liaising and advocating with Government departments, UN bodies, INGOs and local Partners.

An experienced logistician, is sought to support the critical work of the Disaster Management field team in the Darfur region, North Sudan. Key responsibilities will include the management of logistical functions at the field office, including procurement, asset management, estate management, communications / IT, transport and fleet management, distribution, warehousing and commodity management, managing a team of logistics, security and warehouse staff. An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to head up our HR function in our Disaster Management Programme in North Sudan (Khartoum). The main purpose of the job is the development and implementation of Human Resource policies and procedures across the programme and the provision of an HR support service to staff. As part of the senior management team, the postholder will be responsible for compliance and adherence to local legal requirements and will advise managers on all areas of recruitment, retention, training and discipline of staff. AREA COORDINATOR, KANDAHAR based in Kabul, Afghanistan

An experienced manager is sought to manage, in liaison with the Programme Director, the area team based in Kandahar. This role is Kabul-based requiring regular travel to Kandahar. The projects in Kandahar are being remotely managed so experience of remote working methodologies are required. The successful candidate will have relevant relief experience plus proven management and leadership skills, coupled with experience in project design management, finance and strategic planning. Experience of working in insecure locations is essential.

Experience of other Tearfund partners working in Kandahar and the ability to speak Dari or Pashto would be an advantage.

Responsibilities include needs assessment and proposal development, regular communication with other agencies, partner organisations and with the Programme Director, the writing of project reports to relevant donors and monthly written reports on all field activities.

The Emergency Field Manager will: Lead the set-up of new programmes as Country Director: manage all field aspects of programme start up including initial assessment, registration, donor relations, fundraising and proposal writing, implementation of projects, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. A relief response to the needs of approx 200,000 conflict affected people in West Darfur state. Responsibilities
Overall coordination of and responsibility for the management of Medair’s West Darfur water and sanitation project with other NGOs and UN agencies. Support to, and supervision and training of WatSan staff. Lead the transition of the WatSan programming from ‘out-puts and activities’ to “impact” through monitoring, evaluation, and appropriate humanitarian accountability partnership (HAP) activities. Develop high quality WatSan proposals. Contribute to the overall project coordination in the core management team.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Medair is helping sustain the development of local structures and innovative technologies for a real improvement in hygiene, and access to clean water and sanitation. Disaster Risk Reduction Project: Medair is piloting a project to assist communities to prepare for and to reduce the risks they face, due to natural disasters (cyclones, flooding etc). Medair provides rapid emergency response during post-cyclone emergencies everywhere on the island.

Responsibilities
To oversee and support the design and management of the strategy, implementation, development and evaluation of the Madagascar Programme. To represent Medair for all issues related to the Madagascar Programme. To ensure appropriate leadership and management capacity is given to the support side of the Programme implementation (HR, Finance and Logistics). The first step in becoming a Medair New Relief Worker is to apply for the mandatory Relief & Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC).
All candidates for Medair field positions are required to complete the ROC, prior to leaving for their first field assignment. The ROC is an 8-day training and evaluation course that takes place three times a year in a European country. The objective of the course is to have candidates experience the challenges of relief work firsthand as well as to become familiar with Medair's projects and values. The ROC provides the ideal opportunity for both candidates and Medair alike to assess the suitability of future collaboration. Due to the evaluative nature of this course, Medair cannot guarantee placement upon completion of the ROC. However we aim to place successful candidates in the field as soon as possible - most assignments occur between 3 - 6 months after the ROC - it can take longer, but it can also be quicker if an individual’s profile fits an urgent need.
