In one month’s time world leaders will meet in Paris to achieve a new international agreement on the climate. We believe that this is an important opportunity to work towards environmental justice through stopping the catastrophic consequences of climate change and ensuring sustainable development for all. It is the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people who suffer the most from the impacts of climate change, for example the vicious cycles of floods and droughts are reducing people’s ability to make a living and forcing many people into poverty.
EU-CORD are part of the network of faith organisations supporting the petition Act Now for Climate Justice. This petition calls on world leaders to help the world’s poorest people cope with the impacts of climate change and to reach ambitious and strong climate agreements that will keep global warming well-below 2 degrees.
This petition will be formally presented to UN authorities, including Christiana Figueres the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in Paris on Saturday the 28th November, just before the start of the COP21 Climate negotiations.
