European Parliament Brussels, Room Spinelli 1E1

MEPs are warmly invited to join a breakfast roundtable discussion, “Unfashionably Humanitarian?”, hosted by Barry Andrews (RENEW) and Lukas Mandl (EPP), and organised by ActAlliance EU, Caritas Europa, EU-CORD and World Vision EU.

At a time when solidarity is sometimes dismissed as old-fashioned in political debate, this dialogue offers a space to reflect on the future of humanitarian funding as the European Parliament considers critical decisions under the next Multiannual Financial Framework. For faith-based organisations, solidarity is not a passing slogan, but a principle rooted in scripture and our shared humanity.

Together, we will explore a simple but fundamental question:

Will Europe set aside the preferential option for the poor — or reaffirm compassion, care, and human dignity?

The discussion will open with brief keynote reflections from:
• H.E. Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza, Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union
• Dr Josephine Sundqvist, Secretary General, LM International
