Fragile Contexts Nexus Case Studies

The Fragile Contexts Nexus Case Studies report, produced in collaboration between EU-CORD, ACT Alliance EU, Caritas Europa, and Islamic Relief Sweden, showcases how faith-based organisations contribute to the Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus. Case studies from LM International (Uganda) and ZOA (Ethiopia) illustrate the work of EU-CORD members in addressing fragility, displacement, and inter-ethnic tensions. Alongside them, Caritas Myanmar, Caritas Thailand, Caritas Ukraine, Christian Aid Ireland, Kerk in Actie, and Norwegian Church Aid demonstrate how faith-based networks foster resilience and peace across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Together, these organisations show that empowering local communities and strengthening partnerships with faith-based actors offers a pathway to sustainable peace, resilience, and inclusive development in fragile contexts.

Nexus and Fragile States Roundtable – outcome report

The Outcome Report – Nexus Roundtable (December 2024, Brussels) brought together EU-CORD, ACT Alliance EU, Caritas Europa, COMECE, Islamic Relief, and other partners to explore best practices for engaging faith-based organisations (FBOs) in fragile contexts. Speakers from EOC-DICAC (Ethiopia), Caritas Burkina Faso, the Vicariate Apostolic of Puerto Ayacucho (Venezuela), and Islamic Relief Pakistan shared how FBOs sustain communities through conflict and fragility. Contributions from ZOA and Kerk in Actie underlined the importance of long-term presence, religious literacy, and partnerships that bridge humanitarian aid, development, and peacebuilding. The roundtable highlighted both opportunities and barriers: FBOs are trusted by communities, yet they face short-term, unpredictable funding. The report calls for flexible, multi-year support and stronger collaboration between the EU, donors, and local actors to unlock the full potential of the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus.

EU-CORD and the Triple Nexus

The recently published EU-CORD Triple Nexus Report highlights how members of the EU-CORD network are engaging with the humanitarian–development–peace (HDP) nexus. Contributing members include CORD, Dorcas, Fida, Help a Child, LM International, Medair, Mission East, PMU Interlife, Sign of Hope, Woord en Daad, and ZOA. The report features case studies from Fida (focusing on disability inclusion in the Democratic Republic of Congo) and Mission East, which partnered with KIRDARC in Nepal to strengthen resilience in fragile communities. Other members, such as Dorcas, Help a Child, and Woord en Daad, are referenced for their resilience frameworks and localised approaches to peacebuilding and development. By documenting the diverse experiences of EU-CORD members, the report demonstrates how faith-based organisations and their partners are operationalising the nexus—bridging humanitarian relief, long-term development, and peacebuilding for more resilient and inclusive communities.
